Joe Root, the England middle order batsman, reckons that Eoin Morgan thrives under pressure and he is just one knock away from being a consistent match winner for the Three Lions again.
According to Root, Morgan enjoys the support of each and every individual in the England changing room.
Morgan is under fire at the moment. He is being criticized heavily particularly back home in England.
A reputed former player even termed him an ‘Overrated batsman’ the other day.
Root, however, is not of the view that the recent low scores of the English captain will have any effect on him leading to the Cricket World Cup.
Root was quoted as speaking, “We always look up to Eoin in difficult situations because he is so good at soaking the pressure. He is mentally calm and all the people in our camp, including myself, are behind him. We believe he will find his Midas touch in the upcoming tournament and will pile on runs for us.”
It’s actually quite weird that people are having so much of a go at Morgan. Not too long ago, he had played that wonderful innings of 121 versus the Aussies in Sydney.
The thing is that England depends a lot on Morgan. Whenever, he does not score runs, the Three Lions struggle and then, his form starts getting discussed. He never manages to slip under the radar as some of the other players do.
A couple of low scores to his name and there happens to be concerning voices amongst the English supporters.
There’s no doubt that these are desperate times for Morgan, but, that does not mean he should just be crucified. He must be given his space and as Root said, he is too good a player to just keep getting out cheaply.
