Morgan Returns to the England Side

Eoin Morgan has been recalled to the 16 man England squad that will play Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates from January, as well as Monty Panesar and Ravi Bopara. Although the two were unexpected call ups into the national side, there was no doubt that Morgan would be named in the squad once he was passed fit after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder that kept him out of action for quite some time.

Although Morgan has been a very consistent performer for England recently, holding the team down in the middle order as it was seen in the series against India, he has not played much cricket since then due to the surgery and many of the selectors were against the idea of recalling him to the side and wanted him to travel to Bangladesh with the England Lions to get some match practice under his belt. However, that idea was dropped quickly keeping in mind his experience in the side.

It is believed that Ravi Bopara, the man whose place in the side Eoin Morgan has made his own has been included in the side as a back up to the 24 year old left-handed batsman. England has been missing his presence on the field in the past couple of months where he is ever present, diving around and saving boundaries and taking catches. But it is yet to be seen how the shoulder injury will affect his big hitting and whether he can regain the form that he was playing with at the beginning of the year.

Geoff Miller, a member of the selection committee said that he expects Eoin Morgan to come out with all guns blazing and is hopeful that he will repay the faith shown in him by the selectors and the board.
