England lost to India by 7 wickets in final T20 and won the series in Bristol. However, Eoin Morgan did not give up and said that his team will not under perform in ODI series which would start in 12th July. The T20 defeat against India has not made England less confident as the captain Eoin Morgan did not show disappointment. Post enormous high about fighting against Australia in all matches with limited-over; the Virat Kohli’s team gave a reality check to the England team.
Indian won its first game quite well at Manchester and lost a nearly battled 2nd tie in Cardiff prior to a strong comeback at Bristol to win the series 2-1. The England captain Morgan did emphasize that the T20 series results will certainly not have any impact as far as the One Day International series in concerned. Eoin Morgan could score just 1 in the first match of the 7-match ODI series against Sri Lanka.
The game was being played in Colombo and the visitors were chasing down a big target of 318. The platform was laid by the top order and Morgan, who had walked in at 4, had to provide a bit of acceleration to the innings, but, before he could settle down, he was cleaned up by none other than Ajantha Mendis, the mystery spinner of the Sri Lankan team.
Morgan mistook that Mendis’ delivery as orthodox off spin and thus, played for the away going delivery leaving enough space between his bat and the front pad for the ball to take the thin inside edge and disturb the furniture behind him.
It was sort of Deja vu for Morgan. He has been dismissed like this a lot against the off spinners who don’t turn the ball that much. He doesn’t seem to be able to pick the slider which just skids on and goes with the arm. This time, he got bowled. On other occasions, he has been out leg before wicket. So, he will have to think about it.
The left hander is batting at the crucial no. 4 position for England in the One Day Internationals and his role there is to play freely and get the England innings taken off in the middle overs.
If he gets out early, England completely gets unsettled. It happened a couple of times in the India series back home and now, it has happened here in the first game in Sri Lanka as well.
Morgan surely needs to get better against spin if he has to help England achieve anything big in the World Cup.
England may have suffered one of its worst Test series defeats in recent memory and middle order batsman Eoin Morgan knows that the only way to make it right is by whitewashing the star studded Pakistan One Day International side in the 4 match series after already going 1-0 up with a scintillating display to win the first match by 130 runs. Morgan, who has been struggling with injuries for quite some time has recently made it clear that he wishes to dispel the clouds of speculation about the future of the England Cricket team as the top team in the world after being whitewashed by the mediocre Pakistan side.
Although the team has won only the first match and Morgan knows that a lot can happen between now and the end of the series, because cricket is a game that cannot be predictable at all, he is still sure that the English side has enough fire power to dispel the mighty Pakistan side with ease.
Eoin Morgan is also looking forward to making himself a regular in the side after being out of the team for some time due to injuries that he has been struggling with over the last few years. He said that he enjoys the competition for the middle order slot with Essex batsman Ravi Bopara saying that it is healthy and is for the betterment of the side that the player on form gets picked.
Eoin Morgan, who had sustained a shoulder injury while playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League in 2011 has been in and out of the side since then but he doesn’t want to be a bit part player anymore and is looking forward to establishing himself as the middle order hope of the England Cricket Team.
